Junior Product Designer — Customer-Facing Mobile App
Job Description:
Junior Product Designer — Customer-Facing Mobile App
Connected Motion | Amman, Jordan | 6-Month Contract | 0–2 years experience
About the Role & Responsibilities
We are hiring a Junior Product Designer on a 6-month contract to help design a new customer-facing mobile app we are building for an undisclosed project. You will work closely with product managers and engineers to take features from early sketches through to polished, shipped screens on iOS and Android. This is a hands-on role built for someone early in their career who is hungry to learn, eager to ship, and ready to have their work in the hands of real users within weeks, not quarters. Strong performers during the contract may be considered for a full-time role, though this is not guaranteed.
Over the 6 months, you will own smaller features end-to-end under guidance, contribute to larger flows alongside a design manager, and help shape the app's emerging design system. Because this is a customer-facing consumer-grade app, craft matters: we expect you to care about the details of motion, microcopy, touch targets, and edge cases. We also expect you to ramp quickly, ask sharp questions, sketch early and often, and treat feedback as fuel rather than criticism. Beyond day-to-day design work, you will sit in on usability sessions and build real fluency in the product's domain.
Our Environment
Design Tools: Figma, FigJam, design tokens, component libraries
Research: User interviews, usability testing, and industry’s best practices
Product Surface: Mobile apps on iOS and Android, with supporting web touchpoints where needed
Ways of Working: Close collaboration with product and engineering, regular design critiques, and fast iteration cycles
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 0–2 years of product or UX design experience, including internships, freelance projects, or strong personal work. Recent graduates with an excellent portfolio are encouraged to apply.
- Education: Degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience demonstrated through your portfolio.
- Portfolio: A portfolio we can actually learn from, showing your process, not just final screens. We want to see how you think, what you tried, what you cut, and why.
- Figma: Comfortable working in Figma, building clean frames, using components and auto-layout, and organizing files other people can navigate.
- Visual & Interaction Fundamentals: Solid grasp of layout, typography, color, spacing, and interaction patterns.
- Curiosity & Craft: You notice details others miss. You care about the difference between 4px and 8px. You open apps and wonder how they were built.
- Communication: Able to explain your design choices clearly, take feedback without ego, and ask questions when something is unclear.
- Location & Availability: Must be based in Jordan and available to work on-site in Amman full-time for the 6-month contract duration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Design Systems: Any exposure to working within or contributing to a design system; tokens, components, documentation.
- Consumer Mobile Experience: Prior work on consumer-facing mobile apps; even as a student project, internship, or personal side project.
- Motion & Micro-interactions: Interest in animation, transitions, and micro-interactions, the details that make a mobile app feel alive. Exposure to tools like Rive, Lottie, or Figma prototyping.
- Front-End Literacy: Basic familiarity with how mobile apps are built (React Native, Swift, Kotlin, or similar), enough to understand what's easy, what's hard, and how to hand off cleanly to engineers.
- AI & Prototyping Tools: Comfort using modern AI tools (v0, Lovable, Figma Make, or similar) to explore ideas quickly and generate prototypes.
- Brand & Visual Identity: Comfort working within a defined brand system or helping evolve one: typography, iconography, illustration, and visual tone for a consumer audience.
- Comfort with Ambiguity: Able to stay productive when the brief is evolving, the domain is new, and some details can only be shared under NDA.
What We Value
We take our culture seriously. Ownership, high standards, and honest feedback are non-negotiable. We favor bias for action and experimentation, making reversible decisions quickly and irreversible ones carefully. We believe in innovating and simplifying, accomplishing more with less, and insisting on high standards while helping each other get there. Read more at connectedmotion.io/culture.
